Quo Vadis -- Baltimore, MD -- June 11th, 2009

Another band that I've wanted to see for a very long time. Quo Vadis was one of the first death metal bands I've ever heard, more specifically, the song was Absolution (Element of the Ensemble II). Last night was awesome. A smaller venue with a band who looked like they felt completely comfortable, cracking jokes with one another and interacting greatly with the crowd. It was an awesome time.

The first band to play was Nightfire from New York. They played a very professional sounding technical death metal in the same style as perhaps Necrophagist at times, but more brutal. They were definitely fun to listen to and the technicality astounded at times. 8/10

The first band that performed that was on the Quo Vadis tour was Dark Faith from Florida. I preferred this band to Nightfire because they sounded more melodic and, to me, had a tinge of black metal to their sound. They were very awesome and great to headbang to. 8.5/10

The best opening band was saved for last, though. Revocation is a thrash metal band with tech. death, grindcore, and punk thrown into the sound. They're only a three-piece band, too! They played probably the most enjoyable music of the night. Hopefully, I get to see them again real soon. 9/10

Quo Vadis' set was plagued early on with some sound problems, but the band took it in stride with smiles on their faces to make for a memorable set. They cracked jokes with the crowd about how awesome band introductions were in Europe and how although they were playing for only about 30 people, they were sweating like they were playing for over 1,000. It was great fun to hear all these songs I've known for so long. I really, really hope they get to do a full US tour. 9.5/10
