I'm so glad I decided to go to this. Every band, especially the last two, absolutely destroyed. One of the best shows I've been to in a long while!
The first band was Threat Signal. I'm not usually a fan of the melodic death metal/metalcore sound, but they were great for that style! A huge recommendation to you if you like bands like Unearth, As I Lay Dying and Darkest Hour. They had a lot of fast parts but also some groovy breakdowns which made for a really enjoyable opening set.
I was really excited for Revocation. After they had a few technical difficulties for the first two songs of their set, they really kicked it into overdrive and put on the best set I've ever seen them play. They really are the perfect blend of speed, technical prowess and groove; they should be headlining these shows instead of being an opening band! The crowd was pretty dead in the beginning because of the sound being messed up, but Dave Davidson is one of the best frontment ever and got the crowd back into it. To try and get the crowd into the right frame of mind for "Across Forests And Fjords", he proclaimed: "IMAGINE IT'S LIKE SKYRIM, EXCEPT THE DRAGONS HAVE TITS!" Best way to introduce a song ever. They were on fire tonight. Some people might not like the setlist, but in the end it was great. No Funeral might be my new favorite live Revocation song.
Eluveitie was one of the best live bands I saw last year, and I'm almost positive they'll make that list again this year. Simply put: they're one of the best bands I've ever seen live. Folk metal is too much fun live. The sound this time around was much clearer, and I had no problems hearing the woodwind instruments or the violin/Hurdy-Gurdy. The pit never stopped the entire time they were on-stage and there was even a wall of death! Just so much fun to be had.
This was my third time seeing Children of Bodom, and the other two times pale in comparison to the set they did tonight. Everything sounded amazing, the solo's were flawless and the showmanship they had was incredible. I'm not a big Bodom fan. In fact, I'm hardly even a casual Bodom fan. But because of how good each song sounded, the band had me captivated until the end of their set. Alexi really is a god at guitar, and keyboard solos are epic. So much fun. Go see this tour if you can.
Revocation:
Harlot
Age of Iniquity
Dismantle the Dictator
Across Forests and Fjords
Conjuring the Cataclysm
No Funeral
Eluveitie:
Everything Remains (As It Never Was)
Nil
Kingdom Come Undone
Do (Minion)
Meet The Enemy
Havoc
Tarvos
Quoth The Raven
Inis Mona
Children of Bodom:
Sixpounder
Are You Dead Yet?
Not My Funeral
Kissing the Shadows
Shovel Knockout
Living Dead Beat
Everytime I Die
Children of Bodom / Deadnight Warrior / Hate Me!
Blooddrunk
Angels Don't Kill
In Your Face
Hate Crew Deathroll
Encore:
Bodom After Midnight
Downfall
These are all 100%, except for Eluveitie - they might not have played Tarvos.
Children of Bodom - 9/10
Eluveitie - 9.5/10
Revocation - 9/10
Threat Signal - 8/10

2012 update
Hey all! Thanks for sticking with the blog. I was getting some year-end stuff taken care of, so I'll try to be updating more regularly now.
I was going to attend the Rites of Darkness fest (feat. Antaeus, Zemial, etc.) in San Antonio, but that fell through. My last concert of the year will be Sunday, December 11th at the Jackpot in Lawrence: Touche Amore! Also appearing: Pianos Become The Teeth and Seahaven!
A couple last-minute 2011 shows:
As I Lay Dying returns to Kansas City to the Beaumont Club on December 8th. Opening is a whole bunch of bands, including The Ghost Inside, Of Mice And Men, iwrestledabearonce and Sylosis.
Also on the 10th (this coming Saturday) at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City is BLACK LABEL SOCIETY! I doubt you'll get a chance to see these legends in such an intimate setting ever again. Opening is Texas Hippie Coalition and Hammerlord!
Now onto 2012 concerts so far:
--------
The movie Slow Southern Steel is going on tour, and with them are the bands Hail!Hornet (sludge/stoner/doom supergroup) and Zoroaster (one of the loudest bands you'll ever see) and it's stopping at the Beaumont Club on February 1st! The movie plays first, then Zoroaster slays, then Hail!Hornet kills!
====
Returning to the Granada theater after years of absence will be Children of Bodom! They'll be appearing on February 6th along with Eluveitie, Revocation and Threat Signal!
====
Sad that In Flames and Trivium canceled their Kansas City appearance this year? Well fear not, they'll be returning to the Beaumont Club in KC on February 11th! Along with the two bands will be Veil of Maya and Kyng!
====
And now for something a little different. Scott Kelly, frontman of Neurosis and frequent Mastodon collaborator, will be bringing his acoustic tour to the recordBar in Kansas City on February 21st. Eugene S. Robinson opens.
====
Get ready progressive/power fans, the tour of the year is on February 26th at the Midland by AMC in Kansas City: Iced Earth & Symphony X! It looks like it's a co-headlining show with Warbringer opening. Awesome!
====
And now for the show in 2012 that's been announced that I'm super excited for:
Killfest 2012 will be coming to Kansas City on April 26th! This legendary thrash band is bringing along a ton of awesome bands to open: Belphegor, Aborted, Suidakra, System Divide, and Diamond Plate! THRASH!
====
And that's it! I know of a few more shows happening, but they haven't been announced just quite yet. But safe to say, when they are, they will blow your minds.

Lamb Of God -- Kansas City, MO -- April 29th, 2009
True metal police, just go ahead and ignore this review. Also, I didn't bother taking down sets because I seriously doubt they've changed over the other dates, so I'll be using those sets.
After standing in rain for almost an hour, I got into the venue which quickly filled to capacity. And we were in for a treat!
God Forbid was the first band to play and got a huge reaction. To be honest, there were some parts of their songs that were pretty good; had some good guitar solos too. But it relied way too much on the metalcore sound. The crowd ate it up, however. Pretty entertaining and loud.
Star Wars Intro
Antihero
War of Attrition
Empire of the Gun
End of the World
Force-Fed
The band I came to see, Municipal Waste, was up next. They were plagued with a weak sound, maybe in part because they were the only band on the bill tonight with only one guitarist? And the crowd was extremely unresponsive until about 3 songs in when Tony started joking around with the crowd. By the end of the set we got a pretty good circle pit going. Municipal Waste is thrash as hell, naysayers be damned. They were great, but they should get on a tour that would attract people that actually want to see them. I really, really look forward to them again. Great fun.
1.Sadistic Magician
2.The Thrashin Of The Christ
3.Headbanger Face Rip
4.(New Song)?
5.Mind Eraser
6.Terror Shark
7.Beer Pressure
8.Unleash The Bastards
9.Bangover
When I saw Children of Bodom back in September, they really surprised me by how much energy they had. That, and their goofy songs, made for one helluva show. However, Alexi Laiho was very stagnant and barely even moved away from the mic. Apparently four days ago, he fell off his bunk and broke his shoulder. He's been playing the shows since with a broken shoulder! :light: That gives Alexi a pass for maybe flubbing some of the solos (which were still excellent by the way), but the sound mix for Bodom was horrid from where i was standing. Everything was muddled into eachother. By the time it seemed to fix itself, it was the lats song for them. An off night for Bodom. Good, but could've been a lot better. Gotta give props to Alexi, though.
1.Silent Night, Bodom Night
2.Hate Me!
3.Hellhounds On My Trail
4.Living Dead Beat
5.Angels Don't Kill
6.Bodom Beach Terror
7.In Your Face
8.Blooddrunk
9.Downfall
Now, this is where the true metal police would beat me. One of the best bands tonight was As I Lay Dying. Yes, you heard that right. They are metalcore, but they also add in elements of thrash and death and the vocalist isn't half-bad. They play kind of that old-school metalcore that actually uses breakdowns well (weird, right?) and they were by far the most energetic band of the night. Really good, and I'd like to see them again.
Separation
Through Struggle
Nothing Left
Forever
An Ocean Between Us
Empty Hearts
Within Destruction
Meaning In Tragedy
The Sound Of Truth
94 Hours
Confined
Lamb Of God got the hugest reaction of the night. The crowd loved them, and as much as I hate to say it, they are more than likely my generation's biggest metal band. In a few years, I wouldn't doubt they'll be headlining arena tours. Some of their songs had great hooks that really stuck with you (Set To Fail, Laid To Rest) but some of them just felt really same-y. The aggression with which the songs were fired, though, made up for it. Very impressive.
(The Passing)
In Your Words
Set to Fail
Walk with Me in Hell
Hourglass
Now You've Got Something to Die For
Ruin
Dead Seeds
Blacken the Cursed Sun
-Mark Morton solo-
Grace
Broken Hands
Laid to Rest
Contractor
-encore-
Reclamation
Redneck
Black Label
Overall, I'm really glad I went. All good bands.
Ratings (oh jeeze)
God Forbid - 7/10
Municipal Waste - 9/10
Children Of Bodom - 7.5/10

Children of Bodom -- Kansas City, MO -- September 27th, 2008
I don't feel like writing up a huge review, so I'll just kind BS it right here:
BTBAM: I thought they were going to be good, but they were mediocre. I guess I was expecting like...I guess maybe Dillinger Escape Plan-esque crazy tempo changes and stuff? But, no, just metalcore. No terribly breakdowns like, say, Unearth or anything like that, but just nothing stood out about them. 6/10
BDM: Always put on a good show and tonight was no different. Their vocalist cracks me up, he always has a huge grin on his face. He's so happy! He ends every song the same way. Music cuts out, "FUCK YEAH!"
They're fun. 7/10
Bodom: Best band of the night, they were really fun to listen to! The solos sounded fantastic live and that keyboard is awesome! Alexi Laiho is really awesome at what he does and every song, give for "Blooddrunk", was really engaging and powerful. No encores with silly jam songs, but that's okay. Bed of Razors was the highlight. 8/10
The Crowd: A lot of hardcore dancers during BTBAM but they were the "pick up the change" kind. During BTBAM there was a huge lack of devil horns too, which was weird. Everyone did rap hands during the breakdown-esque parts of BTBAM and Black Dahlia for some reason.
During Black Dahlia, there were less hardcore dancers but they were the fucking most annoying I've ever seen. They would stand on the sides and, like, fucking do this stupid ass move to wait until the pit died down so they could go in. Like...the move was...okay, put your hands out in front of you like you're riding a motorcycle. Doing it? Okay, now act like you're revving the gas, and while doing that, imagine if a gangster was doing it. That's what they were doing. I was so fucking pissed off at them. People picked up on their faggotry and just kept running into them whenever they tried to do anything so they just left after BDM. In fact, about half the people there left after them. But then a bunch came in just for Bodom, so it evened out.
Children Of Bodom:
Follow the Reaper
Smile Pretty for the Devil
Silent Night, Bodom Night
Living Dead Beat
Hellhounds on My Trail
Sixpounder
Blooddrunk I did not really like this song
Angels Don't Kill
Children of Decadence -> Chokehold (Cocked 'n Loaded)
Hate Me!
Bed of Razors Probably the best song of the night
In Your Face Extremely fun
Hate Crew Deathroll
Downfall
The Black Dahlia Murder (partial):
What A Horrible Night to Have A Curse
A Vulgar Picture
Statutory Ape
I Worship Only What You Bleed
Everything Went Black
Between The Buried and Me:
Foam Born B: The Decade of Statues The only song I knew by them
All Bodies
